What Time Machine Can Backup
You can use Time Machine, the
built-in backup capability of your Mac, to conveniently back up all your files,
including games, songs, images, addresses, notes, and device data. You may also
delete any particular folder that you do not wish to backup. Time Machine has
the option to delete a particular folder in order not to back it up. Time
machine holds up;
- Local snapshots as space permits
- Hourly backups for the past 24 hours
- Daily backups for the past month
- Weekly backups for all previous months
Also, the oldest backups are
deleted when your backup disk becomes full.

let's get started on how to backup your macOS data to an external drive using
Apple's default Time Machine backup program. It is strongly advisable to back
up the data on an external hard drive.
- Connect your External Drive to your Mac Device.
- Turn on your macOS and click on the Apple icon at the top-left corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
- Select Time Machine from System Preferences.
- Then check on “Back Up Automatically” if you regularly backup your data. Also, you can add Time Machine to the Menu bar for easy access.
- Click Select Disk under the backup disk.
- Choose a Backup Disk you want to back up your system (Data) onto it. Click Use Disk once you’ve selected your back up disk.
- After selecting your disk, the backup process will start automatically. Wait for a few minutes or even hours depends on your data size.

- Once the backup complete, you’ll a backup complete notification.
